Hailing from Knoxville, TN, singer/songwriter Nick Hickman moved to Nashville, TN a year ago to this day to pursue his dream of becoming a country artist. Since arriving in Nashville, Hickman has been hard at work writing and preparing for the year to come.
"I have written more this year than I have in my entire life, and it feels great," says Hickman. Nick is currently in the studio working on his brand new EP with producer Sean Giovanni (Big & Rich, Tyler Farr, etc.)
The first single from the forth coming EP "Summertime Southern Style" was released in November of 2014, and is scheduled to hit country radio in February 2015. The debut single "Summertime Southern Style" is digitally available now.
Katie Yantis has stated, "Singer/Songwriter Nick Hickman is a Nashville newcomer who is quickly making a name for himself in country music with a big voice, a charming smile, and an incredible live show. Hickman released his debut single “Summertime Southern Style” in November of 2014. With the single scheduled to impact radio in early 2015, Hickman is poised for a busy and meaningful year. FBC: What made you want to get involved in the country music world?
NH: Comfort is what made me get into country music and a genuine love for the genre. I am from the south, grew up in southern ways, and it just fits and feels comfortable. I have always heard in country music the songs need to be genuine and well written. I can honestly say that the music that I write and sing now in country are far more accurate depictions of my lifestyle, as well as how I live and was raised. It is just a perfect fit.
FBC: What song of yours is your favorite and why?
NH: My favorite song of mine is called "Bottle Away." It is a future single of mine. I went through a breakup, most have, and struggled. So I sit down one night with a bottle of moonshine, and decided to write down everything I was feeling and thinking. I just needed to get it off of my chest. It wound up turning into a great song and one of my favorites that I have written to this date.
FBC: What has been your favorite memory of your music journey so far?
NH: My favorite memory so far has been with my old band. We did a tour called the "Sunday Morning" tour, and it was some of the most fun I have ever had. I had played 1000s of shows big and small, and been on several tours, but that was by far the most fun I have ever had. 3 months of living out of a 12 passenger van with 4 other dudes, travelling city to city, doing what we loved. We barely slept and barely had time to do anything other than set up, play, meet and greet, break down, drive to the next stop, and do it again, but I loved every minute of it.
FBC: Who is your country music idol and why?
NH: I do not know if I would consider him an idol, but Keith Urban is one of the reasons I started liking/listening to country music. "You'll Think of Me," was one of the first country songs I ever heard and loved. I immediately went and bought the record and listened to it non stop. That opened the door for a lot of other country music at that time, and what is now my ultimate love for the genre. Garth had a big impact on me to. "The Dance" and "The River Runs Dry," were also big songs for me growing up. So I would say one of those 2 kind of steered me in the direction of country music.
FBC: What are three fun facts about you that you want your fans to know?
NH: 3 fun facts about me. 1) I am a sports fanatic, especially college football... HUGE Alabama fan, also love the Braves, Hawks, and Falcons. 2) I am a pretty good cook (mainly steaks, salmon, and pork chops.) and 3) I am a really good golfer (if I am not working, writing, recording, or travelling...I am on the course.)
