We are happy to announce Smith & Wesley as our latest Fresh Find here at Freshly Brewed Country!
Based out of the North Georgia/Chattanooga, Tennessee area, Smith & Wesley have already developed an extensive loyal fan base throughout the region, as evidenced by their headlining a stage at the prestigious Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga.
Smith & Wesley is led by brothers, Scott and Todd Smith, who changed the name of the group from the Brody Johnson Band to its current moniker as a tribute to their father, Wes, who passed away recently. With influences ranging from traditional country, bluegrass and folk music to southern rock, Smith & Wesley have crafted a unique, powerful sound that makes casual listeners instant fans.
Produced by Shayne Hill, the group’s debut CD is titled Choices & Chances. Danny Shirley, lead singer for multi-platinum sellers Confederate Railroad, joins in as a special guest on “Country Dreams,” the album’s closing song. The seamless harmonies of Scott and Todd come from a mix that only a brotherly bond can do, bringing depth and richness to their vocals.
“Choices & Chances is like Garth Brooks meets Brooks & Dunn, that sort of firepower ...
Musical excellence and songs from the heart that tell stories we can all relate to make it a great album,” wrote one reviewer about the group’s new CD. Their debut single, “Need Somebody Bad,” is climbing the Music Row Chart.

We know you want to know more about Smith & Wesley so be sure to check out our interview with them below.
FBC: What made you want to get involved in the country music world?
S&W: Our love for country music was instilled upon us at an early age by our father. We have bothbeen musically inclined growing up. Being in a band together was a fortunate progression.
FBC: What song of yours is your favorite and why?
S&W: We wrote all the songs on our debut album, Choices & Chances, either together or separately. They all offer different perspectives and meanings. I suppose which song we want to hear depends upon our mood.
FBC: Who is your country music idol and why?
S&W: GGrowing up around country music, we have numerous influences and idols. The short list would have to include Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, George Jones, George Strait, Garth Brooks and Vince Gill. In addition to being true artists, they are great story tellers. The songs they sing represent both the good times and hardships that most of us can relate to.
FBC: If you could do a country duet with anyone who would it be and why?
S&W: For us, it would be expounding upon the harmony which we already put into our songs. Not toolong ago, we got to sing with Larry Gatlin. Although it was just for the chorus and in private, we will always treasure that experience. The family harmonies of Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers are hard to beat.
FBC: What was your favorite country song growing up?
S&W: It is difficult to choose only one. However, the songs that we frequently found ourselves singing together in our youth would include those with blended harmonies such as the Gatlin Brothers, the Oak Ridge Boys and Alabama.
FBC: What are three fun facts about you that you want your fans to know?
S&W: We both love fly fishing and are competitive about who catches the biggest and the most. We’ve been known to sit around a camp fire and make up words to songs on the fly just to be crazy.
