We are happy to announce the talented Shelby Lee Lowe as our latest Fresh Find here at Freshly Brewed Country!

His voice is as timeless as a country highwayman with a modern-esque twist, singer-songwriter Shelby Lee Lowe has the potential to establish what country music has been without for the past decade: modern originality with traditional backbone.

A proud addition to the Banner Music artist roster this year, Lowe has gone farther than he could have anticipated. From a local kid with a bar gig to a published entertainer who performs across the nation, Lowe acquired the title of Pepsi’s Southern Original winner and was a competitor for stage time at the annual Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam in Panama City Beach, Florida for a chance to open the festival for bigwig talent like Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, and personal idol Dwight Yoakam.

A native Tennessean from the small town of Cornersville, Lowe was not one to dream of a life in lights. He discovered his knack of song by dare at a high school talent show singing Tracey Lawrence’s “Paint Me a Birmingham”. A couple years later, Lowe attended the notable Middle Tennessee State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music business while playing Nashville’s legendary Broadway honkytonks in his spare time. While in college, he was introduced to Daniel and Camilla Kleindienst, his publishing recruits from Banner Music who saw that special quality in Lowe from their first glimpse.

“I noticed Shelby’s gift of personality and charm while on stage and further realized his determination to succeed after our first co-write together,” said Daniel Kleindienst, co-founder and staff songwriter of Banner Music. “He gives 100% commitment to his craft.”

Lowe has made strides as an entertainer sharing the stage with major label recording artists such as Darryl Worley, Big SMO, Cowboy Troy, and the iconic Charlie Daniels Band.

Lowe is currently in the studio recording his forthcoming album.

We know you want to know more about Shelby Lee Lowe so be sure to check out our interview with him below.

FBC: What made you want to get involved in the country music world?

SLL: I begin listening to Eric Church, Tracey Lawrence and Hank Williams in high school and I enjoyed singing along. I loved the story telling and the power behind the songs. I sang at the high school talent show on a date and everyone went wild! I was hooked from that point on. I also had a great uncle who taught me my first song on guitar which was "Folsom Prison blues."

FBC: What song is your favorite and why?

SLL: Picking a favorite song is tough! I recently finished a song with some friends called "at it again," which I love to play. I have a song called "slow dancing," and it means a lot to me as well.

FBC: Where do you get inspiration for your songs?

SLL: Most of my song inspiration comes from real life stories from my life or my family and friends. I have written songs about my grandparents, my parents and my upbringing. I like to write about things I love that people can relate to.

FBC: Who is your country music idol and why?

SLL: I have a few country music idols. I am a huge Dwight Yoakam fan. I love the way he mixes the Bakersfield country with some rock influences. Of course I love George Jones, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. Who doesn't. They are the best.

FBC: What are three fun facts about you that you want your fans to know?

SLL: 1) I am left handed, but I play guitar right handed. 2) I am named after the civil war author Shelby Foot. 3) I was the captain of my high school football team, and I am an avid football lover to this day.
