We are happy to announce the talented DeeAnn Dominy as our first Fresh Find of November here at Freshly Brewed Country!

DeaaAnn Dominy, a Texas-bred singer-songwriter, and winner of the coveted DISCovery Award, is once again ready to expose the world to he blue-eyed soul. After a year and a half in the making, DeeAnn has successfully paved the crossroads of both the Texas and Nashville music scenes, combining country, blues and Americana sounds into her new project FEEL. Produced by legendary Texas blues guitarist Anson Funderburg, the album features seven roaring tracks; six written or co-written by Dominy. Songwriting for the album tok place in Nashville and the album was recorded and mixed at the award-winning Audio Dallas studios back in Texas.

“While the album was brilliantly produced and engineered, most of what we did was in real time, so it has this true live feel to it,” said DeeAnn. “The musicians were some of the finest in the Texas music scene and really made the album come to life.”

DeeAnn’s music reflects her tell-it-like-it-is personality in a way that has caught the attention of many influential journalists. Chuck Dauphin of Billboard Magazine has referred to DeeAnn as a “star,” and noted that her talent “should not be denied.”

Esteemed music critic Scott Sexton of Today’s Country Magazine has called DeeAnn’s music a “perfect blend of acoustics and soul.” Sexton also said that “there is something about an artist who can sit down with a guitar and speak directly to your soul,” while calling her songwriting “superb.”

With years of honing her songwriting craft in Nashville, DeeAnn is out to show the world that with a steadfast work ethic and an unwavering desire to succeed, anything is possible. After writing stints with some of the largest publishing companies including Starstruck and Warner/Chappell, DeeAnn has created her own unique sound and way of storytelling.

“I Love Nashville because it is where I really learned how to craft a song,” noted DeeAnn. “These days I love to write most of my songs by myself or with close friends and writers. I write from my one life and experiences.”

Born in Fort Worth, but raised in Arlington, DeeAnn knew early on she had talent. Using the family’s fireplace as a stage at 6-years old, the young songstress would pretend she was Johnny Cash or Elvis and belt her heart out, singing to anyone who would listen. Despite her talent, it wasn’t until she saw one of her musical influences, Tanya Tucker, at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo that she became aware of her passion for country music. “I realized I can’t live without music, and the one thing I strive for is to be recognized as a true original,” she said. “That’s what I set out to do when I started this crazy dream!”

DeeAnn’s devil-may-care attitude shines brightest when she takes to the stage…but don’t be fooled by her petite frame. This little lady, along with her six-string, knows ow to rock a crowd. Over the years, she has impressed the likes of Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris and Phil Vassar to name a few, all of whom have had this undeniably talented woman open some of their shows.

Said DeeAnn about her biggest dreams: “I want to make authentic music that other people can relate to and enjoy. I put myself out there through every song. I want to keep reaching for the stars while writing tunes that matter to me. Oh yeah, and I guess a Grammy wouldn’t kill either!"

We know you want to know more about DeeAnn Dominy so be sure to check out our interview with her below.

FBC: What made you want to get involved in the country music world?

DD: I have been singing since I was five yrs. old. My Dad always had Country Music playing around the house and in the car. My parents took me to concerts. I saw Tanya Tucker when I was just a tot at the Ft. Worth Stockyards and I knew I was going to sing Country Music and move to Nashville.

FBC: What song of yours is your favorite and why?

DD: My favorite song is “Daddy Went To Prison”. It is that devil on the shoulder song that leads the girl in the song down the path of revenge. I would like to think in real life I try to take the high road…but I must admit it was fun and rewarding to write a song where you could watch someone’s poor choices lead to major consequences. It also shows how our choices reach out far and wide and affect the lives of those around us. Hands down my favorite song that I have ever written.

FBC: What has been your favorite memory of your music journey so far?

DD: Probably getting the 615 Spotlight in Billboard Magazine for my first indie album “Based On A True Story”. It was self penned and the true story of a walk though a season in my life. It was also produced by myself and my good friend, Jack Harris. We did the music our way and it was a stripped down honest production that was fortunate enough to receive outstanding reviews.

FBC: What is your inspiration for the songs you write?

DD: My Life. I don’t write much fiction these days. I draw from my own life, emotion, and experiences. I will also draw from the thing that are happening to those that I love and care about. I also enjoy the bad girl twist that I add to some of my songs. The fighter in me comes through in most of my songs…at least I hope it does. I hope it might help someone else fight when they need to do so.

FBC: What was the first song you wrote called and what was it about?

DD: It was called “Just A Memory”. It was about losing the guy that I thought at the time was the love of my life. I think the title speaks for itself. LOL. I wrote it while dispensing hair products at my Cosmetology School. My mind just wasn’t on hair that day. I felt a rush and a relief when I finished that song. It probably took all of an hour to write. After that, I was hooked. Songwriting was my voice to the world.

FBC: Who is your country music idol and why?

DD: Johnny Cash. A true original and pioneer. An artist that did not sound like anyone else..EVER! An Artist who chose songs that meant something to him. He sang with conviction. He stood for something…and you knew it!

FBC: If you could do a country duet with anyone who would it be and why?

DD: Kid Rock. I love his voice and how he combines country, blues, and rock. I love that he is a rebel. I think our voices would sound really good together

FBC: What are three fun facts about you that you want your fans to know?

DD: 1. You probably would not catch me out on the town without a PBR and giant hoop earrings in my ears. 2. I have a college degree, a personal training license, and a Cosmetology license. 3. I do a mean Cher impression
