We are happy to announce the talented Jake McVey as our latest Fresh Find here at Freshly Brewed Country!
Music has the power to move the masses and few artists understand that better than Jake McVey. A relentless road dog who performs nearly 300 dates a year, McVey has earned a loyal fan base that’s addicted to his fiery stage show and arsenal of ear-grabbing songs.
A compelling performer who combines youthful enthusiasm with a seasoned eye for reading a crowd, McVey is so in demand that he was booked 10 consecutive days at last year’s Iowa State Fair. He’s shared the stage with some of country’s most acclaimed acts, including Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean and Little Big Town. “We do a lot of touring and spend a lot of time on the road in front of the fans and new potential fans,” says McVey. “I’m always trying to look at what they are responding to as well as myself growing as an artist.”
His latest single, “Y’all Girls,” is a road tested fan favorite that showcases the energy he brings to the stage, and it sets the tone for his new EP. “We are putting something together that is just going to be fun,” he says of the direction of his forthcoming project. “We wanted a song that reflected a party atmosphere and just a good time. This is a good feeling song written by Greg Barnhill. I’ve written some songs with him in the past like ‘Best Days of Our Lives’.” He said, ‘Man, I’ve got the perfect song for you.’ So he sent it to me and I loved the tune. It was exactly what we were looking for. It really matches what we do live and brings that energy to this new project.”

With the help of producer J. Gary Smith, McVey also explores new territory sonically, surrendering more to his rock ‘n roll influences on such tracks as “Twisted.” “It’s all about a girl that gets you twisted up and it’s real rock vibe with heavy guitars,” he says. “It’s just rippin,’ and then I’ve got another song called ‘Backseat’ that’s just another fun, playful tune.”
McVey grew up working on his family’s Iowa farm, but knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music. After high school graduation, he moved to Phoenix to learn guitar making at the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery. “Most of them that I play on stage are ones that I built,” he says. “When I first started and my tour schedule wasn’t so busy, I had my own little shop, but it started getting bigger and my goals were still here in the industry. I said ‘I can make guitars when I retire.’”
These days instead of making instruments for other artists to play, he’s coaxing the sounds out of the guitars himself. Inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley, McVey is a stellar musician with a commanding stage presence.
