We know you want to know more about Mary Kutter so be sure to check out our interview with her below.
FBC: What made you want to get involved in the country music world?
MK: I've always loved music - I remember coming up with songs as a little kid, and I was really involved singing in church plays and school functions. I love all different styles of music, but country music draws me in with the stories in the songs.
FBC: What do you use for inspiration to write your songs?
MK: I'm a huge lover of stories - whether that be a classic novel, historical fiction (I'm currently reading about JFK and Jackie....fascinating!), an old movie, or TV show series.....When I write music, I always try to create a mini-movie for my listeners, and I definitely draw from the stories I've either read about, watched, or experienced in my own life.
FBC: We read you also play some instruments, which is your favorite?
MK: This is a hard question! I play several instruments including piano, guitar, fiddle, ukulele, and flute....In most writing sessions I have my guitar, but I'm often drawn to the piano when experimenting with different melodies.
FBC: When did you first start your Country Music Hour?
MK: We just celebrated our one year anniversary of "Mary Kutter's Country Music Hour" this past February....time has flown by and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to meet so many special and talented singers, songwriters, musicians, and industry folks. Roth Stratton, the owner of the three stations that we air on, approached me the December before we began the show...He had seen me perform multiple times over the years and he told me he was interested in beginning a music variety show on his stations and thought I'd be a perfect fit for the host. I never would've dreamed of hosting a TV/Radio Show, and I'm totally in love with the experience.
FBC: What has been your favorite memory of performing so far?
MK: I've had a lot of special moments so far in this musical journey. My favorite thing has been meeting folks before and after shows -- there are so many great people in this world and music has been something that's let me make some wonderful friends. Opening for Miss America, Katie Stam, in Atlanta was something I'll never forget -- we had dinner beforehand and I got to sing for several thousand people in the audience before she took the stage. Definitely an amazing memory I'll treasure forever.
FBC: Who is your country music idol and why?
MK: This is another hard Q because there's been so many amazing country singers and songwriters who have influenced me. If I had to look back on when I began doing shows, my mind goes to Faith Hill.....I remember sitting on my bedroom floor with my boombox and Faith Hill's CD, listening over and over to each song, especially "Like We Never Loved At All" -- I was totally mesmerized by her voice and how she interprets her songs.
FBC: If you could perform a duet with anyone who would it be with and why?
MK: This is a pretty big list, but I'll tell you one who I may not be able to duet with until we all get to Heaven...but sharing the stage with Elvis Presley would be a "heavenly" experience for sure! He had an unforgettable voice and I loved how he'd really feel the words he sang.
FBC: What are three fun facts about you that you want your fans to know?
MK: 1) I LOVE chocolate, hot tea, and dresses. 2) If I'm not making music, I'm spending time with my 7 nieces and nephews or in the kitchen creating a new recipe (usually they work out well - haha!) 3) I'm a huge lover of dogs and cats...like, a lot. :)
