We are happy to announce the talented Kayla Woodson as our latest Fresh Find here at Freshly Brewed Country!

With musical roots in country, rock, and soul, Kayla Woodson's influences range from Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder to Journey and Guns ‘N Roses, and country stars like Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood. Combining her powerful vocals with her strong stage presence, Kayla has perfected her live show and started to make her mark on Music City. From a spur of the moment opportunity to jump on stage and perform with Lady Antebellum to mentions on The Bobby Bones Show, Nashville is taking notice.
2015 was a whirlwind year for Kayla that included her first performance on the Hard Rock stage at CMA Music Fest, shows with her band up and down Nashville’s famed Broadway, and the release of her first single “Fan for the Flame” to country radio.
Growing up in the small town of Waggaman, Louisiana, Kayla was a little girl with a big voice and a love for the stage. At age seven, she started playing the Texas/Louisiana Opry circuit and, by age ten, she was fronting her own band and performing at parades, parties, and festivals across the region.
In 2004, Kayla took her talents to Italy to train at the Bocelli School of Music then later that year to Romania to represent the United States at the Golden Star Children’s International Talent Fest, where she took 2nd place in the world. By age fifteen, Kayla was writing her own music and released an album titled I’m Movin’ On, which included four of her original songs.
In the fall of 2012, Kayla took a leap of faith and made the move to Nashville to study at Belmont University following the footsteps of country superstars and Belmont alumni such as Trisha Yearwood, Brad Paisley, and Lee Ann Womack.

Since moving to Music City, Kayla has taken the time to focus on and develop her songwriting. She released her self-titled EP in April of 2016. The Kayla Woodson - EP is a collection of five original songs, written or co-written by Kayla.
Having had her hand in every aspect of the creation of this project, Kayla is confident that it represents the artist into which she has matured.

FBC: What made you want to get involved in the country music world?
KW: Country music has always been one of my favorite genres! I feel like country songs are just written so well, and I love that they are about simple, everyday life moments, because people can really relate to them. There’s a true connection there!
FBC: What do you use for inspiration to write your songs?
KW: Just everyday life! I love using inspiration from whats going on around me. All my songs reflect things that have gone on in my own life or that I’ve watched my friends or family go through. I hope that because of that, people are able to relate to what I write and really identify with my songs. It means a lot to me when people listen to hear my music and tell me that they’ve really connected with it.
FBC: What was the inspiration behind your single “Fan for the Flame”?
KW: I co-wrote “Fan for the Flame” with Andrew Peebles. At the beginning of the write that day I showed him a song that I had a verse and a chorus for that I wanted to work on.There was one line in that song that he really liked that said something like “burn a bridge and fan a flame.” We took that one line and started a whole new song from it, and that song became “Fan for the Flame”. It’s a relationship-gone-wrong song, but it’s really all about owning your own strength and independence. It was like once we started writing it, everything flowed so naturally. To me, a big part of the inspiration for this song is mostly my sassiness, haha, but really though!
FBC: If you could perform a duet with anyone who would it be and why?
KW: Oh man! There are so many amazing artists to choose out of lol. My number one choice would be Dolly Parton because she is one of my absolute favorites and that show would honestly be super fun! A tie for second would probably be either Journey or Stevie Wonder because I love their music and the live shows would be out of this world!
FBC: Who is your country music idol and why?
KW: Dolly Parton is one of my favorites! I feel like she is such a genuine person who is not only a great singer but is also an amazing songwriter. Plus she’s so hilarious and so sassy! Dolly is Queen!
FBC: What are three fun facts about you that you want your fans to know?
KW: Hmm, lets see... 1) I’m a big sports fan! I LOVE watching my NOLA and Nashville teams!
2) My absolute favorite color is purple! I’m pretty sure everything I own has some kind of purple on it!
3) One of the coolest and most inspiring moments of my career so far is when Lady Antebellum pulled me up on stage to sing with them in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic!
